Mbappé Reaches 100 Real Madrid Goals in Just 116 Games and Joins an Elite Bernabéu List
Kylian Mbappé has reached another landmark in a Real Madrid shirt, and he did it on one of the biggest stages in club football. Two goals in last Sunday's Clásico victory over Barcelona took the France forward to 100 goals for Madrid, turning a famous win into a personal milestone that will be remembered long after the final whistle.
The speed of the achievement is what makes it special. Mbappé needed only 116 matches to reach a century for Los Blancos, making him the fifth-fastest player in the club's history to do so. That puts him in company that spans generations, from the earliest stars of the Bernabéu to the modern greats who defined the club in the twenty-first century.
Only four players were quicker
Only four Madrid players reached their first 100 goals in fewer appearances. Ferenc Puskás did it in 100 games, Cristiano Ronaldo in 106, Pahíño in 111 and Alfredo Di Stéfano in 114. Mbappé sits just behind that group, a reminder of how high the bar has been set at a club where scoring records are usually held by legends.
The comparison with two other celebrated forwards underlines the point. Hugo Sánchez, the great Mexico striker, needed 142 games to reach 100 Madrid goals, while Ronaldo Nazário needed 163 appearances. Mbappé has therefore outpaced two forwards whose names are still spoken with admiration in Madrid, even though both arrived with very different styles and in very different eras.
What it means inside the current squad
Within the present Madrid squad, the scoring hierarchy is now clear. Vinícius Júnior leads the current group with 128 goals, followed by Mbappé on 100, then Rodrygo with 71 and Jude Bellingham with 49. That spread shows both the depth of Madrid's attack and the central role Mbappé has taken since his arrival: he is no longer simply a new signing finding his feet, but one of the two main reference points in front of goal.
Despite the personal landmark, Mbappé's public reaction after the Clásico focused on the team rather than the number. He spoke of his happiness at scoring and helping the side, but stressed that the victory and the group's success mattered more than any individual detail. That message fits the tone Madrid's leaders have tried to set this season, with togetherness presented as the route to trophies.
A Ballon d'Or near miss
The timing of the milestone made the following days bittersweet. On Monday, Mbappé finished second in the Ballon d'Or race, behind winner Harry Kane and ahead of Lamine Yamal. It was a reminder that individual prizes often follow collective success, and that even a century of goals does not guarantee the game's most famous individual award.
That context matters because, despite finishing as LaLiga's top scorer in both of his full seasons at the club, Mbappé is yet to win a major trophy with Madrid, according to the report. The gap between personal output and team silverware is now one of the most interesting storylines around him, and it may become the main motivation for the months ahead.
Form, journey and what comes next
His current form suggests the goals will keep coming. Mbappé has scored 14 times in just 13 appearances for Real Madrid so far this season, a rate that keeps him at the centre of every defensive plan opponents draw up. If he maintains anything close to that pace, the next landmarks will arrive sooner rather than later.
His road to Madrid also helps explain the expectation around him. He joined on a free transfer in June 2024 after scoring 256 goals in 308 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain and 27 in 60 for AS Monaco, and he has since become France's all-time leading scorer, with ten goals at the summer World Cup. The distant target now is Cristiano Ronaldo's club record of 451 goals in 438 matches, which would require 352 more goals in 322 games to pass. That number shows both how far Mbappé has come and how extraordinary the record at the top remains.
