Paris Saint-Germain's visit to Le Havre on Friday 30 October looked, on paper, like a routine assignment for the league leaders. Le Havre sat at the foot of the table with only two points from eight matches, while PSG arrived top with seventeen. Football, however, rarely follows the paper, and for a while the home side threatened one of the shocks of the Ligue 1 season.

Le Havre took an early lead, with Josh Maja finishing inside the box after a setup from Ryan Fofana, and suddenly the Stade Oceane believed. PSG's response was swift and ruthless. Ferran Torres levelled, Mika Godts put the visitors ahead after a pass from Achraf Hakimi, and Hakimi himself added a third, turning a worrying start into a comfortable lead before the game had truly settled.

The final score, 5-1 to PSG, flattered the champions in one sense and told the truth in another. Le Havre had shown courage and organisation in the opening exchanges, but they could not sustain that level against a squad with PSG's depth and attacking variety. Once the visitors found their rhythm, the gap in quality, confidence and experience became difficult to ignore, and the second half became a matter of control rather than contest.

The result keeps PSG top of Ligue 1 and extends a remarkable run: five wins from their last five matches, with sixteen goals scored and only six conceded in that stretch. Their recent form also includes a 2-0 win over Lyon on 26 October and a 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona, which suggests this is a team peaking across competitions rather than merely beating weaker domestic opposition.

For the rest of Ligue 1, the message is sobering. Chasing PSG requires not just beating them, but doing so while they are winning games they briefly trail in. Le Havre, meanwhile, can take some pride from their start, but they remain in urgent need of points. The other Friday result, Nice's 5-2 win over Rennes, showed that goals are plentiful in this round, yet PSG's comeback remains the clearest reminder of why they are champions and leaders.
